Westbrook Horseshow was a unique experience.
Besides being a great horse show there was the ferry ride accross the sound, excellent food,  extraordinary frozen smoothies ( think Pina Colada ). a nice hotel with reasonable prices, a  nearby beach with restaurants and the International Frog Race. And I was at the show by 12:30  on Wednesday. It's less than an hour from the ferry landing to the show.

One suggestion to relieve some of the ‘fees’ is to only offer some of the 2’6” divisions ( such as Pre Childrens, Pre Adult) as Opportunity classes.

On the positive side this would eliminate the need for the rider and owner to be USEF members, a savings of $110. It also eliminates the $17 USEF/DRUG/USHJA combined fee normally payable at every show. The horse/pony does not need to have a USEF ID or be recorded with USHJA, a $35 savings.

There is a wide variety in the per class fees for the Hunter Divisions.

But again a $500 M&S Classic has a $65 to $75 entry fee and that’s about a 13%  to 15% charge. Same situation as the Jumpers. Same prize money, same fees.

Entry Fees, Office Fees, Grounds Fees, Schooling Fees – Where does it all end ?

For some years now additional fees have been appearing on our showbills. But now it’s getting a little out of control. At two Show Series on Long Island it costs $57 in ‘Fees’ before you even get around to paying your entries.
